The Christian community at Philippi was a vibrant, growing church but we know too that it experienced a period of dis-harmony that threatened its fellowship.

Like it or not, disharmony is alive and kicking, and unfortunately, continues to pervade some present day church assemblies!

Beloved, God has great plans and great purpose for His Church, His People! He knows Christian living is not always going to be easy. And that is why He has given us the New Testament—from which we can draw lessons on basics, for example on just how important it is for believers to live and be at harmony with each other,

Here are some verses—

Rom 12:16a~~ “Live in harmony with one another”. “Be of the same mind one toward another”

John 10:16~~Jesus’ goal is that “there shall be one flock and one Shepherd”

John 17:21~~Jesus prayed for all future believers “that all of them may be one”

John 17:23~~ Jesus prayed, “May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me”

The scripture reference Philippians 2:1-7 for today’s pulpit message emphatically sums that Harmony is ESSENTIAL for believers!

Verse 3 shares the key to harmony is to be humble. Humility is what will cause us to be likeminded and have harmony in our fellowship.

Paul calls Christians to be like-minded, and to have one common purpose in Jesus Christ. This high call of unity and like-mindedness will allow peace and harmony in our lives and in our church.

Just as Christ consistently exemplifies sacrificial, unconditional love and consideration for others, Christians likewise must always consider the greater good of the Church, its plans and purpose first before individual self-interests. This, we must do, so that we can lift the interests of God’s Church!

Beloved, let us manifest God’s great plans and purpose for ALFC!. Let this not be threatened by dis-harmony from not being like-minded and united in the ways of the Lord.

Let us pray and claim like-mindedness, unity and harmony for our church with the one objective to advance the cause of Jesus Christ and His Great Evangelistic Commission.

“Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble”1 Peter 3:8
