The Chinese Lunar New Year (CLNY) is an important traditional Chinese holiday observed and celebrated by all Chinese the world over.

“Gong xi fa cai” is a familiar greeting we offer one another during all 15 days of the celebrations.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this greeting as we wish our family, loved ones and friends a prosperous, happy and healthy year.

However, amid the merry making and feasting, it would be good if we are kept mindful and remember that the source of our good life, well being, health and prosperity is from our Lord God (3 John 1:2), for His blessings bring wealth without painful toil (Prov 10:22); and His peace, He freely gives is a peace that transcends human understanding, and it is peace that removes all fear and anxiety. (John 14:27)

Beloved, the CLNY provides us the perfect opportunity to share Christ with relatives and friends, many of whom we may only meet once a year. As we interact with them and find out about their lives, we can also share how as Christians, we have found hope, peace, blessings and eternal life in our Saviour Jesus Christ. The Lord can certainly use us to share the Gospel. We can pray for such opportunities to witness for Him.

And when we give out hong baos, beloved, what better way to show the extra love wishing one and all good health and at the same time, share the new life and love of Jesus we are experiencing and enjoying as Christians. God can save the most hardened souls. Pray and trust God to work in unbelieving hearts.

Beloved, every good and perfect gift comes from our Heavenly Father (James 1:17) who wants only that we be in good health; and who will make us successful; and wishes that all is well with our soul. (Joshua 1:8, 3 John 1:2)

Make this CLNY special. Make it count for more than just the usual hong bao and orange exchanges, feasting and gongxifacai greetings. Let Jesus in and share His message of true peace and blessings, love and eternal life.

Have a happy, blessed and meaningful Chinese Lunar New Year, Everyone!
