Obey and Trust Him above all else, always!

Jun 19, 16 Obey and Trust Him above all else, always!

Genesis 22 shares how God had commanded Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac at the top of Mount

Moriah. That must have been the toughest, nearly impossible request for any father to encounter, and

do. Imagine the turmoil, struggle, pain and confusion that went through Abraham’s entire being!

Yet Abraham obeyed God— travelling three days into the desert–walking alongside his beloved son,

who was to be the sacrifice!

Abraham obeys God’s command to sacrifice Isaac, which was just a test to prove his faith

Abraham’s obedience was an act of faith in God. He remembered God was his shield (Gen 15:1). He

remembered also that God had been extraordinarily gracious and good to him up to this point in his

life! So Abraham chose to trust that God will perform His word and fulfil His promise; and that God’s

promised blessings will come thereafter.

Sarah bore Isaac - a promise from God even at her old age

Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised. Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him.

Beloved, that is what Faith is about—trusting God, and acknowledging His timing is perfect. (Gen 21:1-3)

God, our loving Father, never intended to take Isaac – it was to test Abraham for his own sake. God’s

intent was to bring Abraham to full surrender, and to full faith. And that is what God will continually do

in our lives to help us.

He will use tests to assess our obedience and commitment levels. If we pass

His tests, He will bless our lives because His greater purpose is to always bless us and to bring us

back into His loving arms if we have strayed; and to free us if we are mired in earthly fears of loss,

danger or failure in our lives.

So to all my beloved fathers here this morning, this is God’s Fathers’ Day message for us—to obey

and trust God, above all, always!

Genesis 15: 4

“Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring[d] be.”

Happy Blessed Fathers’ Day, and congratulations for already doing a great job as father, dad, pa;

grandpa, ahkong; and great grandpa! Amen.
