Facing the giants in our lives

Mar 27, 17 Facing the giants in our lives

Have you ever felt hopeless, defeated and in the dumps on the obstacles in your life?

Do not dispair because God put the giants there, that we may seek Him and with His strength, we may overcome and walk the purpose He has for us in our lives.
Rely not on your own human strength to handle your difficulties; real strength comes from God alone

“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.  I have called you by name; you are mine.  When you go through deep waters,  I will be with you.

When you go through rivers of difficulty,  you will not drown.

When you walk through the fire of oppression,  you will not be burned up (Isaiah 43:1 – 43:2 NLT)
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NLT)

3 men who faced their giants

1) David vs Goliath (1 samuel 17)

David did the impossible through God – he slayed Goliath the champion of the Philistines who was bigger strong and feared of all armies. With just a catapult that God worked through.

What are your Goliaths in your lives? Seek God’s strength to conquer them and walk the path of victory He has for you, to inherit the land of milk and honey.

David continued to succeed in everything he did, for the Lord was with him. (1 Samuel 18:14 NLT)
God arms me with strength,  and he makes my way perfect.

  (Psalm 18:32 NLT)

David vs Goliath

2) Caleb and Joshua: seeing God’s promise rather than the giants

The 10 spies saw giants, but the two spies Caleb and Joshua saw only a great God who despite circumstances of what the eyes see, was going to give them the promised land.
Only Joshua and Caleb outlived Israel.

Israel due to their unbelief, wandered in the wilderness for 45 years.

Proclaiming Faith in God’s promises, Caleb – went on to inherit the land of the giants.

Caleb was invincible – and what was his secret? Reliance and believe in God and His promises.
The only exceptions are Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of Nun, for they have wholeheartedly followed the Lord .’ (Numbers 32:12 NLT)

3) Our Lord Jesus Christ

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. For forty days and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry (Matthew 4:1 – 4:2 NLT)
The devil comes to steal kill and destroy.

Often he comes in disguise of temptation, or even as an angel of light in our times of need.
Satan comes to Jesus to tempt him after his fasting, when He was hungry and weary

Jesus rebukes Satan
Temptation 1: Personal Desires over God’s will

During that time the devil came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.”
But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say,

‘People do not live by bread alone,

but by every word that comes from the mouth of God (Matthew 4:3 – 4:4 NLT)

Temptation 2: tempting God

“If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say, ‘He will order his angels to protect you.

And they will hold you up with their hands

so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.’ ”
Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the LORD your God (Matthew 4:6 – 4:7 NLT)

Temptation 3: Materialism, desires

Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me (Matthew 4:8 – 4:9 NLT)

“Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say,

‘You must worship the LORD your God

and serve only him.’ ” (Matthew 4:10 NLT)

How to defeat the giants in your life

What are the giants in your life right now?

Today, you may be facing giants of oppositions, depressions, sickness, anxieties, fear, family crisis, financial difficulties, and health problems. By the grace and mercy of God, giants will be defeated in Jesus’ Name. Surrender and commit your problems to the Lord.

1) Surrender and submit yourself to God. Seek His will.

2) Know you are not alone. Seek Godly counsel and support

3) Obey and walk in His Will

Look to the Lord in your difficulties. Seek His will and He will go before you.

So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are (1 Peter 5:6 – 5:9 NLT)

So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world (James 4:7 – 4:8 NLT)
