Passion for God

Mar 12, 17 Passion for God

What is the meaning and synonym for passion?

Passion, ardent, loving, zealous, being ablaze, being aflame

What this means for Christians

  • Being on fire for the Lord
  • Zealous for the Lord
  • Loving God foremost

Warnings on being a lukewarm Christian.

We are called to serve The Lord with zeal

I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I

will spit you out of my mouth! You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked (Revelation 3:15 – 3:17 NLT)

If you do not serve the Lord your God with joy and enthusiasm for the abundant benefits you have received, you will serve your enemies whom the Lord will send against you. You will be left hungry, thirsty, naked, and lacking in everything. The Lord will put an iron yoke on your neck, oppressing you harshly until he has destroyed you (Deuteronomy 28:47 – 28:48 NLT)
Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. (Romans 12:11 NLT)

As Christians we are called to be fruitful and productive

For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better. But if I live, I can do more fruitful work for Christ. So I really don’t know which is better (Philippians 1:21 – 1:22 NLT)
Submitting and Driven by the Love of God

Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The LORD our God is the one and only LORD.
And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ (Mark 12:30 NLT)(Mark 12:29 – 12:30 NLT)
We were created in God’s image to do love Him and to love humans

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:8 NLT)

Another good reason we need to love God

He has blessed us in numerous ways

– salvation, homes, health, occupation, family, ministry, food and clothing, water/ electricity, telephones/ mobile
With little, God blesses and does abundant work.

With just 12 disciples, Jesus has opened up the kingdom of heaven and the gospel of good news on earth

So let not your service and passion be undermined

Soon afterward Jesus began a tour of the nearby towns and villages, preaching and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom of God. He took his twelve disciples with him, (Luke 8:1 NLT)

What happens if we don’t have love for God?

We become ineffective in our ministry

We lose our enthusiasm and become lukewarm

We lose our joy

We lose our spiritual strength or power

We become critical of others in the Church and magnify their weaknesses

Love our first love. Love Christ as He first loved us, like a marriage’s first love.

But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first! Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you don’t repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches.

(Revelation 2:4 – 2:5 NLT)

What does it mean to wait upon the Lord

To walk in love and trust in His perfect Will for us.

Wait patiently for the Lord .

 Be brave and courageous.

Yes, wait patiently for the Lord . (Psalm 27:14 NLT)

Are we living this one life wholly following the Lord?

1)Return to the Lord in full passion – our first love

2) First priority to love Him

3) Seek first after His kingdom and His righteousness

Seek the Lord while you can find him.  Call on him now while he is near. Let the wicked change their ways  and banish the very thought of doing wrong (Isaiah 55:6 – 55:7 NLT)
And they will not need to teach their neighbors, nor will they need to teach their relatives, saying, ‘You should know the Lord .’ For everyone, from the least to the greatest, will know me already,” says the Lord . “And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins.” (Jeremiah 31:34 NLT)
